New location: TsirulniK Barbershop

A new barbershop “TsirulniK” has opened on Shota Rustaveli Street, 33a: a wide range of services, unlimited drinks and game consoles. We understand how the path to a man’s head lies and how “TsirulniK” differs from other barbershops.

We talked with its founder Andrii Ostapchuk about the Barber school, royal shaving and star clients, and also tested several services.

Even when we opened a barbershop in Brovary, then we understood that we would launch it in Kyiv as well. This space is very spacious – we were specifically looking for one to provide here not only barbershop services, but also to open an office for men’s manicure/pedicure, manual services, and a barber school. As for the latter, we took students from the very beginning of our work, trained specialists for ourselves. But lately there have been so many people who want to do it that they decided together with Rostyslav Ostrolutsky, one of the first barbers in Kyiv, to open a separate school where they will also teach shaving and beard modeling. As a matter of principle, we do not take women, but I promise to teach the wives of my clients how to shave them properly at home. You can master it in 3 days.

We make our own men’s cosmetics – for shaving, beard care, various types of soap. After the dollar rose sharply a few years ago, it became much more expensive to buy professional Western cosmetics, and not everyone was ready for it. Once the delivery of the gel was delayed a lot and one of the barbers decided to make it himself for the sake of the experiment. We were surprised by the result, because his cosmetics did not differ in quality from American ones. So it was decided to expand the assortment. Now we are not the only ones using these tools – they are often bought by clients from Kyiv and ordered from other cities of Ukraine.

Of course, haircuts are in the greatest demand here. Then – beard modeling, royal shaving and styling. For example, a royal shave differs from a regular shave in that it lasts almost an hour and involves steaming the skin with water and oil. The foam for such a procedure should only be water-based and whipped into a cream with a special ointment made from the hair of a high mountain silver badger, because only it is absolutely hygienic by nature.

Barber haircuts are completely different from salon or hairdresser haircuts: shapes, quality of execution, duration of wear. In salons, the masters are usually stars, but we try to make our clients stars: so that a man just walks down the street doing his business, and looks like he just came from a photo shoot. For example, haircuts are not performed with scissors – only with machines of various types and using different techniques.

We also asked about the current trends of Rostyslav OSTROLUTSKA, one of the first barbers in Kyiv, who was entrusted with the haircut of our friend Andriy , for whom this trip to the barbershop turned out to be the first in his life.

Currently in trend are not too short and not too rough transitions, maximally smooth lines in the hairstyle, more texture: when you can see that the same bangs are divided into several strands. Also in fashion is a square, shoulder-length hair.

Andriy: I liked the fact that the master immediately determined which haircut suited my head shape and there was no need to explain anything. When I was younger and came to the barbershop, I still did not answer the question “How to cut?” No one started work. And royal shaving is a separate thrill.  During the time you are being shaved, you can not only relax, but also sleep, probably.
